Safety Tips
At Merai, your safety is our top priority. Whether you’re chatting online or planning to meet in person, these practices and tools are designed to protect your well-being.
Online Safety
- Protect your privacy. Never share your home address, financial details, or any other sensitive information too early.
- Use in-app messaging first. We recommend you avoid sharing your phone number or social media profiles until you’re truly comfortable.
- Trust your gut. If something feels off, it probably is. Don’t hesitate to end a conversation or use our safety features.
- Watch for scams. Immediately report anyone who asks for money, gifts, or other urgent help.
Meeting in Person
- Meet in public. Choose well-lit, public places like a cafe or park for your first meeting.
- Tell a friend. Share your location and plans with a trusted friend or family member.
- Arrange your own transport. Use your own car or a ride-share service to get to and from the meeting location.
- Stay aware. Be mindful of your surroundings and avoid excessive drinking.
- Leave if you need to. You have the right to end the meeting at any time if you feel pressured, unsafe, or disrespected.
Reporting & Blocking
Merai empowers you to take control of your experience. If someone behaves inappropriately or violates our guidelines, you can act immediately.
To report a user
- Go to the user’s profile or chat.
- Tap the three-dot menu.
- Select Block and Report and choose a reason (e.g. harassment, fake profile, hate speech).
- Add optional comments or screenshots to help our team.
To block a user
- Go to their profile or chat window.
- Tap the three-dot menu.
- Select Block and Report and choose block.
All reports are reviewed by our combination of AI and human moderators with fairness and care.
AI & Safety Systems
- Red Flag Detector AI: scans for manipulative behavior, such as gaslighting, coercion, or toxicity, to help keep your conversations safe.
- Karma System: we track kindness, ghosting frequency, and respectful exits. A low Karma score will reduce a user’s profile visibility.
- Anti-ghosting nudges: these features encourage closure to prevent sudden silence and promote emotional well-being.
- Chingu buddy: our in-app emotional co-pilot may quietly flag unsafe vibes, offer comfort, or suggest boundaries if it detects potential harm.
- Human review: all AI-flagged issues are reviewed by a team of trained safety moderators.
A note on Chingu
Chingu can provide comfort and light guidance, but it should not be relied upon in emergencies or as a replacement for professional help. If you are in crisis or need urgent support, please seek assistance from qualified professionals or emergency services.
